Indian Army Launches Community Radio Station "Panchshul Pulse" in Pithoragarh

On May 23, 2025, the Indian Army inaugurated a new community radio station named “Panchshul Pulse” at 88.4 FM in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. The launch aims to strengthen connections with local communities, particularly in remote and high-altitude areas. The station was officially inaugurated by Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army’s Central Command.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Army’s Panchshul Brigade, seeks to leverage radio as an effective medium for community development and communication. “Panchshul Pulse” is designed to celebrate local culture, raise awareness of various government and Army initiatives, promote educational programs, and create employment opportunities. Additionally, the station is set to provide entertainment specifically tailored to the regional audience.

Highlighting the importance of this station, Lt Gen Sengupta discussed its potential to enhance civil-military relations and utilize media to engage isolated populations. He referenced the successful launch of a similar initiative, “Kumaon Vani,” which has effectively connected approximately 500 villages in Nainital, expressing optimism that “Panchshul Pulse” would achieve comparable success.

The establishment of the station is seen as a strategic move to integrate technological outreach with local development objectives, underscoring the Army’s evolving role—extending beyond security to encompass welfare and empowerment in frontier regions.

The inauguration event was attended by Army personnel, local leaders, and community residents, signifying the collaborative nature of this project. The programming on “Panchshul Pulse” will specifically address the needs and aspirations of the local population, aiming to not only preserve cultural heritage but also promote progress and resilience within this border district.
