The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially filed a chargesheet against Ashu Korsa, a Maoist operative from Bijapur district, in connection to the targeted killing of Indian Army personnel Motiram Achala. The chargesheet was submitted to the NIA Special Court in Jagdalpur.
Korsa is accused of being involved in a broader conspiracy orchestrated by the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) to create a climate of fear among local residents and to challenge the authority of the Indian government in the region. Motiram Achala was shot dead in a brazen attack while he was attending a local fair with his family in Useli village, situated in Kanker district, on February 25, 2024.
Investigations have established that Korsa was an armed cadre associated with the Kuyemari Area Committee of the North Bastar Division of CPI (Maoist). Details indicate that he executed the attack in collaboration with a senior leader from the Maoist group. The NIA took over the investigation after local police initially handled the case, with the agency officially assuming jurisdiction on February 29, 2024. Korsa was apprehended by the NIA in December of the same year.
Officials assert that this act was not merely an isolated incident but part of the CPI (Maoist)’s ongoing campaign to instill fear among civilians while simultaneously targeting security forces and undermining state institutions in the tribal regions of Chhattisgarh.
