In a significant move to bolster India’s air defense capabilities, Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, conducted a comprehensive review of the First to Strike Air Defence Brigade. The visit highlighted the brigade’s preparedness, technological advancements, and evolving operational capabilities, underscoring its strategic importance in the context of national security.
During the review, Lt Gen Seth received detailed briefings on the brigade’s modern training regimens, joint operational exercises, and the integration of next-generation defense systems. Of particular note was the demonstration of upgraded hypersonic missile defense capabilities, a landmark achievement following India’s successful long-range hypersonic missile test carried out in November 2024. This advancement positions India among a select group of nations equipped to effectively counter emerging aerial threats.
The General also took the opportunity to assess the brigade’s equipment modernization initiatives, driven by the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which aims to foster self-reliance in military capabilities. He praised the focus on domestically developed systems, highlighting a remarkable 30% increase in defense research and development investment since 2020. This shift reflects India’s commitment to achieving technological self-sufficiency and resilience against the backdrop of rapidly changing warfare dynamics.
Lt Gen Seth acknowledged the brigade’s exceptional performance during Operation Sindoor, commending the troops for their dedication and innovative approaches. He encouraged them to sustain their progress in aligning with the wider transformation goals of the Indian Army. This vision aims for a modern, responsive, and technology-driven force by 2047 as part of the Viksit Bharat initiative.
The visit reaffirmed the pivotal role of the Air Defence Brigade as a crucial component of India’s military readiness, emphasizing its dual capability in both warfighting and disaster response scenarios with agility and precision.
