In a decisive move to bolster the Indian Army’s combat readiness in counter-terrorism (CT) operations, the Ministry of Defence has finalized thirteen high-priority contracts under the Emergency Procurement (EP) mechanism. These contracts, collectively worth ₹1,981.90 crore, are part of a fast-tracked initiative to augment operational capabilities, backed by an overall sanctioned outlay of ₹2,000 crore.

The EP mechanism was activated to enable swift and critical acquisitions, ensuring that troops on the ground are equipped with the most advanced and mission-critical equipment in record time. This procurement drive underscores a focused approach to strengthen situational awareness, lethality, mobility, and protection for Indian Army personnel operating in high-risk CT environments.

Key Equipment Procured

The latest acquisitions under the Emergency Procurement include a range of indigenous, technologically advanced systems:

  • Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction Systems (IDDIS) – To enhance protection against aerial threats posed by hostile drones.
  • Low Level Lightweight Radars (LLLR) – Designed for effective surveillance and target acquisition at lower altitudes.
  • Very Short Range Air Defence Systems (VSHORADS) – Launchers and missiles to safeguard against aerial attacks.
  • Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicles (RPAVs) – For real-time reconnaissance and intelligence gathering.
  • Loitering Munitions, including VTOL Systems – Providing precision strike capabilities against enemy positions.
  • Various Categories of Drones – To support a variety of operational and surveillance roles.
  • Bullet Proof Jackets (BPJs) and Ballistic Helmets – Offering enhanced protection to soldiers on the frontlines.
  • Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles (QRFVs) – Heavy and medium vehicles for rapid troop mobility in conflict zones.
  • Night Sights for Rifles – Enabling effective engagement during low-light or night-time operations.

Strategic Significance

This procurement drive reflects the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to modernizing the Indian Army with state-of-the-art, indigenously developed equipment. It also highlights the strategic utility of the Emergency Procurement route in addressing immediate operational requirements without compromising on quality or delivery speed.

The timely induction of these systems will not only bridge crucial capability gaps but also reinforce India’s pursuit of self-reliance in defence production under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.

As security challenges evolve, the Indian Army’s enhanced arsenal ensures that its forces remain agile, well-protected, and combat-ready in all terrains and threat scenarios.
