Air Marshal Mishra Reaffirms IAF's Operational Readiness in Strategic Western Sector

Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra, the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Air Force’s Western Air Command, conducted a visit to two forward bases on June 28. This inspection underscores the IAF’s commitment to operational readiness in a region that holds significant strategic importance due to its proximity to both Pakistan and China, with evolving security dynamics in play.

During his inspection, Air Marshal Mishra engaged with Air Warriors stationed at these locations, commending their dedication, morale, and professionalism. This visit is particularly noteworthy given the increased operational tempo following Operation Sindoor, a recent mission characterized by precise strikes on terrorist targets, as detailed in a government briefing.

The Western Air Command, based at Subroto Park in New Delhi, is pivotal to IAF operations, overseeing 16 essential bases. Historically, it has been instrumental in critical missions, including air operations during the 1962 and 1971 conflicts and ongoing logistical support to high-altitude outposts like the Siachen Glacier since the 1980s.

Air Marshal Mishra, who assumed command on January 1, 2025, brings extensive experience to his role, having logged over 3,000 flying hours throughout his career. His background includes various leadership positions, notably as a test pilot and former Director General of Air Operations. His recent visit coincides with a broader emphasis on modernizing the force to tackle multi-domain security challenges.

His discussions during the inspection reinforced the IAF’s commitment to maintaining heightened alert levels along the western front. Air Marshal Mishra emphasized the crucial role played by personnel at all levels in securing the nation’s airspace. In the coming weeks, the IAF is expected to release additional details regarding operational outcomes and updates on modernization efforts, reflecting the ongoing evolution of the force in response to contemporary security needs.
