The Defence Electronics Application Laboratory (DEAL), operating under the aegis of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Dehradun, has achieved a major milestone with the successful completion of field trials for two indigenous communication systems. The systems in question are the Software Defined Radio (SDR) Manpack and the Compact Transhorizon Communication System (CTCS). The trials were conducted in the challenging terrain of Joshimath, facilitated through collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and several other key user agencies.
During the evaluation process, officers from various security and paramilitary forces lent their expertise, including representatives from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles, Intelligence Bureau (IB), National Security Guard (NSG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), along with other allied agencies. Their active participation was pivotal in assessing the functionality and effectiveness of the systems.
The trials were meticulously designed to evaluate the performance of these communication systems against specific parameters outlined in the Qualitative Requirements (QRs) and Technical Documents (TDs). Conducted under diverse terrain and operational conditions, the assessment aimed to verify how well the SDR Manpack and CTCS could perform in real-world applications. Both systems demonstrated robust functionality, successfully fulfilling the operational benchmarks set by the users.
This achievement represents a significant advancement in India’s ongoing efforts toward self-reliance in critical communication technology. The successful field trials serve as a testament to DRDO’s dedication to providing national security forces with cutting-edge, indigenous communication solutions specifically adapted to meet the demands of complex operational environments. As India continues to enhance its defense capabilities, these trials mark a crucial step in equipping security personnel with the tools needed for effective communication in challenging conditions.
