In an extraordinary display of bravery and compassion, Major Rohit Bachwala of the Indian Army Medical Corps received high praise from Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, for his heroic actions during a critical situation at Jhansi Railway Station.
On July 5, 2025, Major Rohit was en route to his hometown of Hyderabad from Military Hospital Jhansi when he spotted a distressed woman near the lift area of the railway station. The woman, who had fallen from her wheelchair, was in advanced labor and clearly needed immediate assistance. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Major Rohit acted without hesitation, despite the absence of any clinical facilities.
Demonstrating remarkable resourcefulness, he utilized makeshift materials to facilitate the emergency delivery. With only a towel, a knife, and hair clips at his disposal, Major Rohit managed to assist the woman in giving birth right on the platform. The circumstances grew more dire when he discovered that the newborn was unresponsive at birth.
Quick to respond, Major Rohit successfully resuscitated the infant and expertly handled the post-delivery complications faced by the mother, including issues related to the delivery of the placenta. His prompt and skilled actions were crucial in stabilizing both the mother and her newborn before they could be safely transferred to a nearby government medical facility for further treatment.
The exceptional circumstances under which Major Rohit operated, coupled with his medical expertise and composure in a high-pressure environment, garnered commendation from senior leadership within the Indian Army. General Upendra Dwivedi praised Major Rohit’s actions, emphasizing that they exemplify the values and dedication that the Armed Forces stand for, serving as a shining example of selflessness and commitment to duty.
