General Upendra Dwivedi's Emotional Reunion with Troops in Siachen

In a significant gesture of solidarity and support, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi made a visit to a forward post in Siachen, known as the world’s highest battlefield. During this poignant visit, he engaged with soldiers from the 18 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles (18 JAK RIF), sharing heartfelt moments with those he had previously commanded.

The reunion was particularly special as General Dwivedi connected with seven Junior Commissioned Officers and soldiers from his former battalion, reflecting on shared experiences from his early military career. Photographs from the visit, shared by the Indian Army on social media, depicted the emotional bond between the COAS and the troops, who appreciated seeing their former leader in such a challenging environment.

This visit followed closely after his address at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass on July 26, where he honored the sacrifices made during the Kargil conflict, marking the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas. During this solemn occasion, General Dwivedi announced the establishment of a new integrated “all-arms brigade” named ‘Rudra,’ a development that was approved just a day prior. This new brigade is expected to significantly enhance India’s operational readiness at its northern borders.

At the memorial, General Dwivedi emphasized the Indian Army’s unyielding commitment to national security. He remarked on the Army’s measured yet forceful response during recent operations, particularly referencing Operation Sindoor, which he termed as a resolute answer to cross-border terrorist activities. “Operation Sindoor is our resolve, message, and answer,” he stated, reinforcing the notion of decisive action taken by the forces.

General Dwivedi also condemned a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, labeling it a cowardly act that affected the collective spirit of the nation. He reiterated the Army’s stance against such attacks, asserting, “This time India did not express doubt. The decision was that the answer would be decisive.” He credited the government’s strategic freedom for enabling the Indian forces to respond effectively and with determination.

His visit to the rugged terrains of Siachen served not only to uplift the spirits of troops enduring harsh conditions but also reflected a broader commitment of military leadership to engage with frontline forces. This interaction is vital in reinforcing morale and ensuring that every inch of Indian territory is defended with unwavering dedication.
