Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) celebrated a significant milestone with the launch of the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) ATAL, a Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), during a formal ceremony on July 29, 2025, in Vasco-da-Gama, Goa. The ICGS ATAL measures 52 meters in length, 8 meters in width, and has a displacement of 320 tonnes. These high-speed vessels are specifically engineered for various vital operations, including coastal patrol, island protection, and offshore asset security. They also play a crucial role in anti-smuggling, anti-piracy, and search and rescue missions, thereby significantly enhancing India’s maritime domain awareness.
During the launch event, GSL Chairman and Managing Director Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay articulated that the introduction of ICGS ATAL showcases GSL’s commitment to indigenization and innovation, especially in the context of global supply chain challenges. The chief guest, Shri Rozy Agarwal, the Principal Internal Financial Advisor at Coast Guard Headquarters, commended GSL for its strong execution capabilities and its pivotal role in bolstering national maritime security.
The occasion was graced by senior dignitaries from the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Ministry of Defence, and key industry partners, reinforcing the collaborative effort in enhancing India’s defense manufacturing landscape. This ceremony stands as a testament to the nation’s ongoing push for self-reliance in defense under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, further consolidating India’s position in maritime security.
