A shocking incident occurred in Nagpur on Sunday evening involving an army officer on leave who allegedly drove his vehicle while intoxicated, injuring a significant number of pedestrians. The events unfolded when Harshpal Mahadev Waghmare, a 40-year-old officer stationed in Assam, was reportedly driving recklessly from Durga Chowk to Hamlapuri in the Nagardhan area around 8:30 PM.

Eyewitness reports indicate that Waghmare lost control of his speeding car, which struck at least 25 to 30 people before ultimately overturning and falling into a roadside drain. Many of those injured were bystanders and local residents who happened to be near the road at the time. Thankfully, there have been no reported fatalities from this alarming incident.

The aftermath quickly escalated into chaos, as a large group of angry locals pulled Waghmare from the vehicle and physically assaulted him. Video footage captured during the incident shows him bleeding and attempting to protect himself from the agitated crowd.

Police from the Ramtek station responded to the scene, calming the situation and taking Waghmare into custody. He was subsequently transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Authorities confirmed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement officials are expected to pursue charges against Waghmare related to rash driving, jeopardizing public safety, and driving while intoxicated. The community remains on edge as details emerge about the incident, prompting public discussions about road safety and accountability.
