In a significant ceremony, Lt Gen Dinesh Singh Rana, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, Ph.D, who serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, inaugurated ‘Nanda Hall’. This newly established facility is a tribute to the esteemed Admiral SM Nanda, who is celebrated for his pivotal role in the Indian Navy during the decisive 1971 Indo-Pak War.
Admiral Nanda, often referred to as the “Father of the Indian Navy’s modern offensive doctrine,” was instrumental in orchestrating Operation Trident and Operation Python. These operations targeted Karachi, leading to substantial damage to Pakistan’s naval forces and significantly turning the war in favor of India. These tactics and strategies have since become legendary, marking a turning point in India’s maritime history.
Nanda Hall serves as not only a tribute to Admiral Nanda’s remarkable strategic foresight and inspiring leadership but also as a vital educational and motivational hub for future generations of naval officers and sailors. This facility encapsulates his legacy, aiming to instill a sense of duty and excellence among the ranks.
Within its walls, Nanda Hall showcases the illustrious heritage of the Indian Navy. It features detailed models of ships and aircraft, telling the story of the Navy’s evolution from its historical triumphs to its present-day role in ensuring the security of India’s vast maritime interests. The hall is designed to reflect the Navy’s growth into a formidable maritime force, underscoring its ongoing commitment to protecting the nation’s extensive maritime frontiers.
The establishment of Nanda Hall not only preserves Admiral Nanda’s memory but also reinforces the Navy’s dedication to continuous advancement and readiness in the face of evolving global challenges.
