National Cancer Awareness Day 2025
Every year, India observes National Cancer Awareness Day on November 7 to highlight the significance of early cancer detection, preventive healthcare, and lifestyle changes that can reduce cancer risks.
The initiative was first introduced in 2014 by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, who served as the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare. The objective was to raise public understanding about cancer prevention and the importance of timely medical intervention.
Cancer remains one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, accounting for over 10 million deaths in 2020. In India, the disease continues to pose a major health challenge due to factors such as poor lifestyle habits, rising pollution levels, and the use of tobacco products.
For 2025, India’s awareness efforts are in line with the World Cancer Day global campaign theme — “United by Unique,” which emphasizes global solidarity and collective action in the fight against cancer.
