Article: India’s Advancements in Precision Weapons, Missile Programs, and Semiconductor Technology
India continues to strengthen its defence and technological landscape through significant progress in indigenous weapon systems and semiconductor innovation. Four major developments—the enhancement of the Electro Optical Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (EO SAAW), validation of a Submarine-Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM), advancement of the PRALAY tactical missile, and the unveiling of the ARKA GKT-1 SoC—highlight the nation’s march toward strategic autonomy and technological leadership.
EO SAAW Program Reaches New Milestone
India’s quest for advanced precision-guided munitions has taken a major step forward with the ongoing development of the Electro Optical Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (EO SAAW). Created by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the Indian Air Force, this long-range, air-launched weapon is designed to disable enemy runways, hardened facilities, and command structures from stand-off ranges.
A unique dual-seeker approach is being pursued—one variant uses a cooled seeker for enhanced target detection, while another employs an uncooled seeker. The latter reduces manufacturing complexity, lowers costs, and allows wider deployment across multiple aircraft platforms. With a range of up to 100 km, depending on launch conditions, EO SAAW integrates smoothly with key fighter aircraft such as the Su-30MKI, Jaguar DARIN-III, and HAL Tejas, significantly enhancing India’s stand-off engagement capabilities.
Indigenous SLCM Strengthens Undersea Strike Capability
India has also achieved a crucial breakthrough in its underwater strike capabilities through the successful development and testing of an indigenous Submarine-Launched Cruise Missile. This weapon reinforces the nation’s sea-based deterrence by enabling submarines to conduct precise strikes on both maritime and land-based targets.
The missile transitions efficiently from an underwater launch environment to sustained air flight, combining stealth, precision, and long-range performance. Powered by a turbojet engine and guided by an inertial navigation system supported by satellite updates, the SLCM can carry conventional or potentially nuclear payloads, enhancing India’s second-strike credibility under its nuclear doctrine.
PRALAY Tactical Missile Nears Induction
DRDO’s PRALAY missile program is moving steadily towards induction following a series of successful trials. With the Acceptance of Necessity granted by both the Indian Army and Air Force, the weapon has entered the final phase before mass production. Under the Make-in-India initiative, two Defence Production Partners have been shortlisted for manufacturing.
PRALAY is a cost-effective, high-precision quasi-ballistic missile designed to neutralise high-value targets within a range of 150–500 km. The system’s mobility is enhanced by its 8×8 high-mobility Transporter-Erector-Launcher (TEL), allowing rapid deployment, concealment, and flexible launch options across varied terrains.
India Launches First Intelligent-Power SoC: ARKA GKT-1
In a landmark achievement for India’s semiconductor ambitions, Azimuth AI and Cyient Semiconductors have jointly introduced the ARKA GKT-1—India’s first intelligent-power system-on-a-chip. Unveiled in New Delhi by the Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, this innovation strengthens India’s push towards semiconductor independence.
The ARKA GKT-1 consolidates multiple traditionally separate components—compute units, analogue sensors, integrated memory, and intelligent power management—into a single, efficient platform. Developed through collaboration between AI specialists and semiconductor engineers, the SoC demonstrates India’s growing capability in designing high-performance chip architectures and reduces reliance on imported technologies.
