The College of Defence Management (CDM), operating under the Integrated Defence Staff (IDS), has successfully conducted a week-long Management Development Programme (MDP) focused on Research Methodology from November 17 to 22, 2025. The programme welcomed 29 mid-level officers from the Indian Armed Forces, aiming to enhance their analytical capabilities essential for modern military leadership.
This specialized initiative introduced participants to contemporary research concepts, various tools, and methodologies that are crucial in the current military landscape. According to CDM officials, the curriculum was meticulously designed to foster evidence-based decision-making frameworks. Such frameworks are increasingly vital for addressing the complex operational and organizational challenges faced by the armed forces today.
The MDP included hands-on workshops, case studies, and project-based learning, enabling officers to apply scientific research methods to real-life scenarios tailored to the defence environment. Participants engaged with both qualitative and quantitative research techniques, explored data analysis tools, and learned structured problem-solving frameworks that are particularly relevant to joint-service operations.
This effort underscores CDM’s ongoing commitment to advancing professional military education. By equipping officers with essential intellectual tools, the college aims to support informed planning, operations, and policy formulation within the armed forces, ultimately enhancing their strategic capabilities in a rapidly evolving global context.
