Lieutenant General RC Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Eastern Command, recently delivered a significant address to participants of the Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC-21) at the College of Defence Management (CDM), Integrated Defence Staff (IDS). His discussion was centered on Eastern Command’s operational strategy in an increasingly complex security environment.
During his speech, Lt Gen Tiwari emphasized the growing intricacies of modern battlefields and the paramount importance of joint warfighting. He called attention to the necessity of maintaining high operational readiness while ensuring seamless integration among the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The general pointed out that future conflicts are likely to be multi-domain in nature, which requires coordinated operations across various domains, including land, air, maritime, cyber, and space.
In outlining the requirements for leadership in contemporary warfare, the Army Commander emphasized the need for agile, adaptive, and forward-thinking leaders who can swiftly respond to rapidly changing threats. He highlighted how the integration of advanced technologies will play a crucial role in enhancing operational effectiveness across these domains, asserting that technological advancements would be a key differentiator in future military confrontations.
The session wrapped up with an interactive segment where Lt Gen Tiwari encouraged aspiring strategic leaders to challenge institutional inertia and expand their strategic thinking. He urged the attendees to commit to ongoing Professional Military Education (PME), which he deemed essential for evolving with the changing landscape of military strategy.
Furthermore, Lt Gen Tiwari took time to engage with officers from Friendly Foreign Countries attending HDMC-21 and the Senior Defence Management Course (SDMC-91), reinforcing India’s dedication to international military cooperation and collaborative learning in the fields of defense management and strategic affairs.
