Commissioning of DSC A20
The Indian Navy strengthened its underwater operational capabilities with the induction of DSC A20, the first vessel in a series of five Diving Support Craft. The commissioning ceremony was held at Naval Base, Kochi on 16 December 2025. These vessels are being constructed indigenously by M/s Titagarh Rail System Limited, Kolkata, highlighting India’s growing self-reliance in naval shipbuilding.
Designed as a catamaran-hull platform with a displacement of around 390 tonnes, DSC A20 is equipped with advanced diving systems. It will be deployed for underwater inspections, repair work, harbour clearance operations and other specialised diving tasks in coastal regions. The vessel’s design benefited from hydrodynamic studies and model testing conducted at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam, ensuring enhanced stability and operational efficiency.
DRDO Selects Bombardier Global-6500 Jets for ISTAR Role
India is set to significantly upgrade its aerial intelligence and surveillance strength through a major ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) programme. Under a ₹10,000 crore project, three Bombardier Global-6500 ultra-long-range jets will be transformed into airborne command and control platforms.
These aircraft will function as high-altitude operational hubs, capable of tracking adversary movements, identifying threats over vast distances and providing real-time targeting information to combat units. The Global-6500 offers an impressive unrefuelled range of about 6,600 nautical miles (12,200 km) and is powered by Rolls-Royce Pearl 15 engines. In its military configuration, the aircraft will prioritise mission consoles and sensor systems, accommodating around 10–12 operators instead of luxury seating.
India Unveils Indigenous Microprocessor DHRUV64
India achieved a landmark in its semiconductor ecosystem with the launch of DHRUV64, the country’s first 64-bit, dual-core, 1.0 GHz indigenous microprocessor. Developed by C-DAC under the Microprocessor Development Programme (MDP), DHRUV64 represents a fully domestic solution for both civilian and strategic needs.
Microprocessors are essential to modern technology, driving everything from consumer electronics to defence platforms and space systems. With DHRUV64, India moves closer to technological self-sufficiency by reducing dependence on imported chips. The processor also provides a strong platform for startups, academic institutions and industries to develop and scale innovative products using Indian-designed technology.
Astrobase Advances Reusable Rocket Engine Technology
Bengaluru-based start-up Astrobase, founded in 2024 by former ISRO engineers and industry experts, is pushing India into the next generation of space propulsion. The company is developing a methane-fuelled rocket engine based on the full-flow staged combustion (FFSC) cycle, one of the most efficient propulsion methods in the world.
Producing around 800 kN of thrust, the engine is intended to power a reusable medium-lift launch vehicle. Astrobase has also established a 46,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility and India’s first private high-thrust LOX–LNG engine test centre. With reusability at its core, the project aims to address India’s growing demand for frequent satellite launches and strategic space missions.
