The Judge Advocate Basic Course recently concluded at the Institute of Military Law (IML) in New Delhi, marking an important achievement in specialized legal training for members of the Armed Forces. The course lasted 12 weeks and involved participation from officers of the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Departments of the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Coast Guard, alongside five international officers from Cameroon, Maldives, Nepal, and Tanzania.

Throughout the duration of the course, participants received comprehensive training in Military Law and Allied Laws, which equipped them with essential skills to address disciplinary, administrative, and operational legal challenges across various service frameworks. The curriculum emphasized joint operations, comparative military jurisprudence, and the practical application of legal principles within operational scenarios.

The Valedictory Ceremony for the course was graced by Justice C Hari Shankar, a Judge of the Delhi High Court, and the Judge Advocate General of the Indian Army. In his address to the participants, Justice Shankar, alongside other dignitaries, highlighted the pivotal responsibility of military legal professionals in maintaining discipline, justice, and adherence to the rule of law within the Armed Forces.

Award ceremonies were held to honor meritorious officers, including those from friendly foreign nations, recognizing their exceptional academic achievements and professional conduct throughout the course.

The successful completion of the Judge Advocate Basic Course further underscores the Institute of Military Law’s vital role in promoting legal excellence, enhancing international military collaboration, and bolstering professional adeptness among armed forces legal officers. This initiative reinforces India’s status as a leading center for advanced education in military law.
