Rakesh Aggarwal Given Additional Charge as NIA Director General

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has entrusted senior IPS officer Rakesh Aggarwal with the additional responsibility of Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The decision has been taken to maintain administrative continuity at the helm of India’s premier counter-terrorism agency.

An official memorandum issued by the Ministry states that Aggarwal will continue to hold this charge until a permanent appointment is made or until further instructions are issued. This development follows the premature repatriation of Sadanand Vasant Date, a 1990-batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, which was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

Rakesh Aggarwal, a 1994-batch IPS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, is currently serving as Special Director General of the NIA. His extensive experience in internal security strengthens the agency during this transitional phase.

The National Investigation Agency plays a critical role in safeguarding national security by probing cases related to terrorism, terror financing, radicalization networks, cross-border linkages, and other threats affecting India’s sovereignty.

Israel Announces Peace Honour for Donald Trump

Israel has announced that former US President Donald Trump will be conferred the Israel Prize for Peace in 2026, marking a historic decision in the country’s award tradition. The announcement was made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following a high-level meeting with Trump in Florida.

This recognition is notable for two major reasons. It will be the first time in the last 80 years that Israel’s highest civilian honour is being awarded to a non-Israeli, and it also marks the first-ever Peace category under the Israel Prize.

The move comes shortly after Trump was not selected for the Nobel Peace Prize and reflects renewed diplomatic engagement between Israel and the former US leadership.

This growth highlights the success of long-term policy initiatives aimed at improving digital access and infrastructure across urban and rural areas. A comparison over a decade shows remarkable progress:

  • November 2015: 13.15 crore broadband subscribers
  • November 2025: 100.37 crore subscribers

The surge reflects increased smartphone usage, affordable data plans, and expansion of optical fiber networks nationwide.
