Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command, made a significant visit to INS Jatayu located on Minicoy, the southernmost island of Lakshadweep, on January 11, 2026. This visit is part of ongoing efforts to bolster the Navy’s presence and capabilities in strategically important regions.
During his time at the naval base, VAdm Saxena conducted a comprehensive review of the operational imperatives critical to the region. He assessed the progress of various infrastructure projects that are essential for enhancing the overall operational capacity and readiness of the naval facility. His engagement included a briefing on measures implemented to sustain and improve the facility’s capabilities in challenging maritime environments.

Accompanying VAdm Saxena was Vice Admiral Kavita Sahai, the Director General of Medical Services (Navy), who took part in reviewing preparations for a Joint Services Multi-Speciality Medical Camp set to take place in Lakshadweep. This initiative is aimed at extending medical outreach and healthcare support to both military personnel and the local population, demonstrating the Navy’s commitment not only to operational readiness but also to humanitarian assistance.
