Slovakia Unveils New Combat Uniforms and Weapons to Modernize Military

Slovakia’s Ministry of Defence has unveiled a new combat uniform along with an array of weapons aimed at modernizing the country’s military capabilities and enhancing domestic defense production. This initiative was presented by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Robert Kaliลˆรกk, as well as Chief of Defence Gen. Daniel Zmeko.

As part of this modernization effort, the Slovak military will begin distributing the new combat kits to servicemen and women within the year. The new Personal Clothing System, designated as the M25 or “Vzor 25,” is designed to replace the previous digital camouflage that was adopted in 2007. The focus of the new uniform is on comfort, protection, and sustainability in long-term field operations.

“This new uniformโ€ฆhas a very important function, namely that of enabling soldiers to survive in the field in the long term,โ€ Zmeko stated. He emphasized that the design of Vzor 25 has been influenced by operational feedback and lessons drawn from recent conflicts. The standard combat kit, priced at approximately 300 euros ($354), comprises field trousers, a blouse, and a cap, with additional items available for specialized missions, including a flame-resistant version.

While the fabric for the uniforms will be sourced from international suppliers, the final tailoring and assembly will be performed by Slovak companies, thereby supporting local manufacturing. In conjunction with the Vzor 25 kits, troops will also receive advanced body armor, helmets, and night vision devices to enhance their operational effectiveness.

In a significant move towards self-reliance in defense, Slovakia has also committed to integrating new small arms produced by the local manufacturer, Grand Power. The GP M4M 5.56ร—45-millimeter assault rifle has been selected as the standard infantry weapon, accompanied by a suite of other armaments, including the GP R10 7.62ร—51-millimeter sniper rifle, Stribog SP9 A3 9ร—19-millimeter submachine gun, and GP Q1 9-millimeter pistol.

Kaliลˆรกk mentioned that the total rearmament program is projected to cost around 82 million euros ($96.7 million), with delivery of the new equipment expected to continue until 2028. This initiative marks a substantial effort by Slovakia to bolster its military readiness and capabilities while prioritizing local industry involvement in defense production.
