India commemorates the 18th death anniversary of Baba Amte on February 9, 2026, remembering one of the nation’s most respected social reformers. His life remains a powerful symbol of service to the poor, the marginalized, and those suffering from neglected diseases.

Born as Murlidhar Devidas Amte on December 26, 1914, in Maharashtra, he was trained as a lawyer and actively supported the freedom movement by defending leaders imprisoned during the Quit India Movement. Baba Amte devoted his life to the rehabilitation of people affected by leprosy, challenging social discrimination through action.

He established Anandwan (Forest of Joy) in Maharashtra, a self-sustaining community that provided medical care, education, and employment opportunities to leprosy patients. His work extended beyond healthcare to environmental protection and social justice, earning him national and international recognition.

Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches Qualcomm’s 2 nm Chip

Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated a 2 nanometre semiconductor chip developed by Qualcomm in Bengaluru on February 7, 2026. The launch highlights India’s growing capabilities in advanced semiconductor design and innovation.

Addressing the event, the minister emphasized that as the world enters the Fifth Industrial Revolution, India must position itself as a global hub for deep-tech development. The 2 nm chip represents the cutting edge of semiconductor technology, offering enhanced performance, reduced power consumption, and applications in artificial intelligence, telecommunications, and high-performance computing.

Under the India Semiconductor Mission, the government has adopted a practical approach, initially focusing on 28 nm technology, which fulfills nearly 75% of current industrial requirements, including automotive, telecom, power electronics, and strategic sectors.

India Launches Nationwide Pulses Revolution

A landmark change in India’s agricultural strategy began on February 7, 2026, with the launch of the Nationwide Pulses Revolution from Amlaha in Sehore district, Madhya Pradesh. The initiative aims to reduce India’s dependence on imported pulses and strengthen domestic production.

The programme, formally known as the Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission, was launched at the Food Legumes Research Centre, Amlaha, under the chairmanship of Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Mundra Port Sets New Export Records

India’s export infrastructure achieved a major milestone in January 2026, as Mundra Port in Gujarat recorded its highest-ever monthly automobile exports and liquid cargo handling. Operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), the port shipped 25,762 vehicles through its dedicated RoRo terminal at CT2.

Leading manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki and Toyota increasingly used Mundra Port to export vehicles to markets across Africa, Europe, East Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.

Mundra remains India’s largest commercial port, handling over 200 million tonnes of cargo annually, while APSEZ contributes nearly 27% of the country’s total port volumes.
