Command Hospital (CC) Lucknow recently organized a significant Hand Sanitization Exercise at Shivam Lawns, reflecting a dedicated effort by the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) to promote preventive healthcare and effective infection control measures. This large-scale initiative was part of a nationwide attempt to set a record for the Largest Hand Sanitization Exercise conducted by Defence Personnel across India, in collaboration with the Indian Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records.
The event also served as a celebration of 100 years of the Military Nursing Service, paying tribute to a century of devoted and professional nursing care. In total, 512 participants, comprising uniformed personnel and civilian staff from the Tri-Services, took part in this collaborative exercise. This included medical and nursing professionals, as well as cadets, all of whom practiced the World Health Organization (WHO)-recommended six-step hand sanitization technique using alcohol-based hand rubs. The exercise underscored the importance of adhering to standardized infection prevention protocols in healthcare settings.
Brigadier Vikas Srivastava, Deputy Commandant of Command Hospital (CC) Lucknow, was present at the event and spoke about the vital role that hand hygiene plays in healthcare delivery systems. He emphasized that consistent infection control practices are essential not only for patient safety but also for achieving clinical excellence.
The accomplishment of this coordinated effort highlights the AFMS’s unwavering commitment to patient safety, professional excellence, and preventive healthcare. Additionally, the event marked an important step toward establishing a historic national and Asian record while honoring the enduring legacy of the Military Nursing Service.
