In a significant display of confidence in India’s indigenous defense capabilities, President Droupadi Murmu conducted a sortie aboard the HAL Prachand helicopter at Air Force Station Jaisalmer on February 27, 2026. This event underscores the nation’s commitment to strengthening its homegrown military technology.
The mission involved a two-aircraft formation of Light Combat Helicopters (LCH). President Murmu piloted the lead aircraft alongside Group Captain Nayan Shantilal Bahua, while Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, and Group Captain A Mahendra operated the second aircraft in the formation. Over approximately 25 minutes, the helicopters traversed scenic landmarks, including Gadisar Lake and Jaisalmer Fort, before executing an attack on a designated tank target, showcasing the precision and operational readiness of the Indian Air Force.
In the visitorโs book, President Murmu expressed her pride in Indiaโs growing defense capabilities, describing the sortie as an enriching experience. She extended her congratulations to the Indian Air Force and the team at Air Force Station Jaisalmer, praising them for the successful organization of the event.
This sortie is part of a broader pattern of engagement by President Murmu with the nationโs military capabilities. Notably, she had flown in the Sukhoi-30 MKI in 2023 and the Rafale fighter aircraft in 2025, reflecting her ongoing support for the armed forces and the development of indigenous defense technologies.
Later in the evening, President Murmu is scheduled to attend the Indian Air Force’s firepower demonstration, Exercise Vayu Shakti, at Jaisalmer. This event promises to highlight the operational capabilities and readiness of the IAF, illustrating the advancements made in Indiaโs defense sector.
