The Indian Army is set to initiate recruitment rallies aimed at enlisting 800 porters for a newly formed Porter Company in the districts of Rajouri and Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir. This effort is part of a broader initiative by the Ministry of Defence to enhance logistical capabilities in challenging terrains, particularly to support military operations.
According to official sources, the recruitment drive will comprise 600 porters along with 200 reserve porters for the 279 Porter Company, established for a specific duration from April 1 to September 26, 2026. The announcement underlines the importance of these roles in maintaining the operational efficiency of the Army.
The recruitment rallies are scheduled to take place at seven brigade headquarters in the regions of Rajouri and Poonch from March 12 to March 19. A detailed schedule has been released:
- Poonch and Rajouri: March 12–13
- Balnoi and Naushera: March 14–15
- Bhimber Gali: March 16–17
- Mendhar and Manjakote: March 18–19
Eligible candidates are urged to report to the respective brigade headquarters on these specified dates to participate in the recruitment process.
To qualify for consideration, applicants must satisfy several criteria, including:
- Must be a citizen of India
- Age range between 18 and 40 years
- Medically fit
In terms of documentation, candidates are required to present original documents along with five attested photocopies of identity proofs like Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID Card, or Driving Licence. Additional necessary documents include:
- A character certificate issued by the village sarpanch
- A medical fitness certificate from an authorized medical attendant
- A police verification certificate
Officials have emphasized the importance of attending the rallies at their designated locations to ensure the recruitment process is completed smoothly. The hiring of porters is a critical aspect of the Indian Army’s logistical support, particularly in the rugged environments and forward areas typical of the region, underscoring their pivotal role in operational readiness and effectiveness.
