Maj Gen Vivek Tyagi with Nitin Gadkari

Major General Vivek Tyagi, the Additional Director General (ADG) of the NCC Maharashtra Directorate, conducted a visit to Nagpur where he engaged in discussions with Shri Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India. This meeting, part of a review-cum-inspection tour on May 1, 2026, highlighted the National Cadet Corps’ (NCC) commitment to expanding its reach into the remote areas of Vidarbha.

During the meeting, Maj Gen Tyagi extended his warm wishes on the occasion of Maharashtra Day. He praised the significant contributions made by NCC cadets to various nation-building initiatives, particularly stressing their involvement in community development efforts. These include campaigns focused on road safety awareness, anti-drug initiatives, and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, all in line with the national vision of a “Viksit Bharat.”

A pivotal topic of discussion was the pressing need to enhance NCC infrastructure within the state. Maj Gen Tyagi sought Gadkari’s support for the establishment of dedicated NCC facilities in Nagpur, Mumbai, and Kolhapur. A highlight of this proposal was the suggestion of creating a State Academy in Nagpur, which is aimed at boosting training capacities and outreach capabilities of the NCC in Maharashtra.

Minister Gadkari responded with enthusiasm, acknowledging the NCC’s invaluable role in empowering youth and fostering character development. He assured Maj Gen Tyagi of his ministry’s full backing to improve NCC infrastructure and increase opportunities for cadets across the region.

Accompanying the two officials in the meeting were Group Captain Kushal Vyas, NCC Group Commander, and Lieutenant Colonel Ameey Kanade, the Training Officer for NCC Group Nagpur.

In addition to his discussions, Maj Gen Tyagi also visited the Officers Training Academy (OTA) NCC located at Kamptee. During this visit, he evaluated the academy’s training modules and explored ongoing reforms designed to modernize the training processes for NCC instructors. This tour illustrated the NCC Headquarters’ commitment to transformational changes aimed at further enhancing the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness.

This interaction marks a significant advancement in reinforcing the NCC’s infrastructure in Maharashtra, especially in underserved areas, as it continues to play a crucial role in developing disciplined and socially responsible youth across the state.
