A ceremonial parade was conducted at the Garud Regimental Training Centre (GRTC), located at Air Force Station Chandinagar, to celebrate the successful completion of training for new Special Forces operatives from the Garud Commando Force on May 23, 2026.
Air Vice Marshal Rahul Gupta, serving as the Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations – Space), attended as the Chief Guest, reviewing the parade and underscoring the significance of this occasion.
Upon his arrival, the Commandant of the Garud Regimental Training Centre welcomed Air Vice Marshal Gupta and provided a comprehensive briefing on the demanding Special Forces training program that the new operatives had undergone.
During his address to the newly inducted Garud commandos, Air Vice Marshal Gupta congratulated them on their remarkable achievement in completing the rigorous course. He emphasized the crucial need for ongoing training and skill enhancement, particularly in the context of an ever-evolving security landscape.
The ceremony saw the presentation of the prestigious Maroon Beret, along with the Garud Proficiency Badge and Special Forces Tabs, awarded to the successful trainees. Additionally, outstanding performers were honored with trophies for their exemplary achievements during the training.
The passing-out parade showcased various specialized combat skills through demonstrations, including combat firing, hostage rescue drills, assault explosive techniques, obstacle crossing, wall climbing, slithering, rappelling, and military martial arts.
Officials noted that the Maroon Beret Parade signifies the transformation of trainees into elite Special Forces operators after they have endured a physically and mentally challenging training regimen.
The newly inducted Garud commandos are poised to enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Air Force, particularly in undertaking specialized missions associated with the increasing responsibilities of Air Force Special Forces in operations, such as Operation Sindoor.
