Born in 1997 in the village of Bardiha Dalpat in Deoria district, Uttar Pradesh, Captain Singh grew up in a family with a rich military heritage. Commissioned into the Army Medical Corps on March 19, 2020, he was assigned as the Regimental Medical Officer for the 26th Battalion of The Punjab Regiment. In early 2023, Captain Singh was deployed in the demanding Siachen Glacier sector as part of Operation Meghdoot. Captain Singh was stationed at the Chandan Complex near the Chandan Dropping Zone, where his primary responsibility was to ensure the health and safety of soldiers under his care in unforgiving conditions.
He married Smriti Singh, an engineer, on February 10, 2023, sharing dreams of a future together. Just a day before the tragic incident, they discussed their hopes and plans, only for fate to intervene in the most devastating manner.
On that fateful morning, a fire erupted around 3:00 a.m. due to an ammunition stockpile catching flame at the Chandan Dropping Zone. Captain Singh awoke to the urgency of a fire alarm and acted swiftly, disregarding his own safety to help his fellow soldiers. He entered a smoke-filled shelter, successfully rescuing several trapped comrades before attempting to secure essential medical supplies. Tragically, the fire ignited into an uncontrollable blaze, and Captain Singh became trapped, his fellow soldiers unable to reach him in time.
