Boeing MQ-28 Ghost Bat Receives Upgrades for Increased Payload and Flexibility

Boeing has unveiled significant enhancements to its MQ-28 Ghost Bat unmanned combat aircraft, focusing on expanding both payload capacity and mission versatility. The modifications include a substantial 25 percent increase in wingspan, which translates to an added capacity for 2,000 pounds (approximately 907 kilograms) of fuel and mission payload.

This upgrade enables the MQ-28 to be more adaptable in various operational scenarios. The aircraft can now be configured to carry a maximum of two AIM-120 air-to-air missiles or up to four small diameter bombs within its internal weapons bay, enhancing its combat capabilities. These adjustments not only improve the aircraft’s performance but also position it to meet evolving demands for unmanned combat missions in diverse environments.

The enhancements signal Boeing’s commitment to advancing autonomous combat technologies and staying competitive in the rapidly evolving defense sector. As military requirements shift toward more sophisticated and versatile unmanned systems, the MQ-28’s upgraded features represent a strategic move to bolster operational effectiveness and flexibility in future engagements.
