Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain has officially concluded his command as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Southern Command, as his tenure came to an end on June 30, 2026. His next role will be as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, effective July 1, 2026.
In a solemn ceremony marking the end of his command, Lt Gen Jain honored the sacrifices of the nation’s military personnel by laying a wreath at the Southern Command War Memorial in Pune. He followed this homage with a formal review of a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Headquarters of the Southern Command, emphasizing the significance of the occasion.
In his farewell address to the ranks of the Southern Command, Lt Gen Jain highlighted the necessity for every soldier to remain mission-ready and to uphold high standards of operational preparedness. He urged vigilance and operational excellence as critical components in addressing the evolving security challenges facing the nation. His message underscored the importance of professionalism among troops in safeguarding national interests.
Throughout his tenure, Lt Gen Jain oversaw one of the Indian Army’s largest operational commands, prioritizing combat readiness, force modernization, technological integration, and troop welfare. His leadership has reinforced the Southern Command’s strategic role as a fundamental component of India’s defense framework.
