Lance Havildar Suresh Kumar of the 3 Jat Regiment has been honored posthumously as a Battle Casualty after he was martyred while on security duty for the Amarnath Yatra, an annual pilgrimage that attracts thousands of devotees. His supreme sacrifice has garnered recognition from the Indian Army, highlighting his commitment and bravery in service of the nation.
Suresh Kumar hailed from Haripura village, located in the Dantaramgarh tehsil of Rajasthan’s Sikar district. Prior to his deployment for the Yatra, he was stationed at Pathankot in Punjab. His family shared that he had spoken to his father, Jagdish Genan, merely 20 minutes before the tragic incident occurred, expressing comfort and optimism about being home soon after his leave was granted. The family’s relief was short-lived, as they soon received the heartbreaking news of his martyrdom.
In a poignant display of grief and respect, the mortal remains of Lance Havildar Suresh Kumar were transported to his native village. Thousands of villagers participated in a Tiranga Yatra, a symbolic procession from the Khachariyawas Police Outpost to Haripura, where they came together to pay their final tributes. Comprising ex-servicemen, local youth, and members of various social organizations, the crowd chanted patriotic slogans, celebrating the life and sacrifice of their local hero.
Survived by his wife, Seema Devi, nine-year-old son Piyush, and his elderly parents, Suresh Kumar’s legacy will resonate through his family. In a touching moment, his young son performed the last rites, while the Indian Army honored the fallen soldier with full military rites, which included a Guard of Honour—a gesture that underscores the significance of his service.
Dignitaries like Sikar Member of Parliament Amraram and Dantaramgarh MLA Virendra Singh also paid their respects, offering floral tributes to the martyr. Their presence signifies a community united in grief and appreciation, standing in solidarity to honor a soldier who demonstrated unwavering dedication to his duty and country. The nation collectively mourns the loss of Lance Havildar Suresh Kumar, a true embodiment of valor and sacrifice.
