A significant counter-terrorism operation is currently in progress in Shopian district, Jammu and Kashmir, following the sighting of two suspected militants from the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group in an orchard. The rapid response from security forces was triggered by surveillance footage that identified the individuals as Latif and Zakir.
In a coordinated effort, a joint team comprised of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) established a tight cordon around the area where the terrorists were seen. Security forces have taken comprehensive measures to secure all potential escape routes while conducting systematic searches across seven surrounding villages. As of the latest updates, thorough searches have been completed in four of these villages.

Both identified terrorists hail from Kulgam district, with reports indicating that Zakir joined the ranks of Lashkar-e-Taiba in 2024 and Latif followed suit in 2025. The ongoing operations in Shopian are particularly crucial, as the region is recognized for its dense orchards and forested areas, which have been historically used by terrorists as transit routes connecting South Kashmir, Central Kashmir, and the Pir Panjal region.
