The Eastern Command of the Indian Army has extended its congratulations to Major General Debashish Mukherjee for officially taking on the role of Commandant at the Command Hospital (Eastern Command) in Kolkata, a position he assumed on July 8, 2026.

Major General Mukherjee, a distinguished Surgical Oncologist, is an alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune. His career spans more than three decades within the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), during which he has occupied several pivotal clinical, academic, and leadership roles.

In his new capacity as Commandant, Major General Mukherjee will lead one of the Indian Armed Forces’ premier tertiary care hospitals. His responsibilities will include overseeing specialized healthcare services for active personnel, veterans, and their families. Additionally, he will focus on bolstering the hospital’s clinical excellence and enhancing its operational medical capabilities.
