Lieutenant General Rajiv K. Sahni, currently serving as the Director General of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) and as the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of EME, conducted a significant visit to the Konark Corps Technology Centre. The primary purpose of this visit was to assess the formation’s technology-driven initiatives and its innovation ecosystem, both of which play crucial roles in the evolving landscape of defense requirements.
During his inspection, Lt Gen Sahni expressed commendation for the Konark Eagles, who have successfully created an in-house ecosystem aimed at the mass production and upkeep of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (CUAS). He emphasized that such initiatives are vital contributions towards the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, which promotes self-reliance in defense technology. This focus on indigenous development signifies a commitment to enhancing the operational capabilities of the Indian Army while ensuring that the nation is less dependent on foreign technology.
In addition to the advancements in aerial systems, Lt Gen Sahni also lauded the establishment of a Metallic Additive Manufacturing Facility. This facility is designed to tackle pressing engineering support challenges, utilizing advanced manufacturing technologies to ensure rapid production capabilities. The integration of additive manufacturing within the defense sector represents a transformative approach to resource allocation and engineering efficiency.
