Rear Admiral Vishal Bishnoi has officially taken command of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet from Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, YSM, in a solemn ceremony held on July 24, 2026. Rear Admiral Bishnoi, who was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1994, is an esteemed graduate of several prestigious military training institutions, including the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, and the College of Air Warfare in Secunderabad. His extensive academic background and professional training have equipped him for a variety of operational and strategic roles throughout his career.
A seasoned Fighter Pilot, Rear Admiral Bishnoi has garnered substantial operational experience in aviation, fleet operations, and various command appointments. His career has been marked by significant contributions to enhancing the Indian Navy’s operational readiness and combat capabilities.
He has held several key leadership positions at sea, most notably commanding the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, regarded as one of the Indian Navy’s formidable assets. Additionally, he has led the frontline stealth frigate INS Trikand and the amphibious warfare ship INS Gharial, showcasing his adaptability in managing different classes of warships under diverse operational conditions.
In the realm of aviation, Rear Admiral Bishnoi has commanded the Naval Air Station at Visakhapatnam, known as INS Dega, and led the elite fighter squadron INAS 300, famously referred to as the “White Tigers.” These roles highlight his profound expertise in naval aviation and underscore his significant contributions to bolstering the Indian Navy’s aerial capabilities.
