India Projects $16 Billion Investment in Tactical Communication Systems
India is projected to spend approximately $16 billion on tactical communication systems between 2025 and 2035, according to the information provided.
The planned investment covers communication requirements across land, air and maritime domains and forms part of India’s wider defence modernisation efforts.
Maritime Communications
Of the projected expenditure, approximately $2.3 billion is expected to be directed towards maritime communication systems.
This represents about 14.5% of the overall projected spending and highlights the growing importance of secure communications for India’s naval operations.
Modern tactical communication networks enable military forces to exchange information securely and coordinate operations across different platforms and operational environments.
India–Japan Cooperation
India has also initiated cooperation with Japan in naval communications through the UNICORN pact.
The programme aims to develop next-generation communication systems for warships. The systems are expected to be manufactured in India by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).
The technology draws on Japan’s Mogami-class frigates and is expected to be deployed on India’s Project-17B frigates and Project-18 destroyers.
