New Delhi, October 22, 2026: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is preparing to take on roughly 450 sportspersons against vacant posts, while also changing its recruitment rules to permit sports quota appointments at the Constable, Head Constable and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) levels.
A CISF spokesperson said the rules are being amended for sports recruitment at these three ranks and that hiring of about 450 sportspersons “will begin soon”.
The plan is part of a wider CISF effort, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, to expand sports infrastructure, support athletes and coaches financially, and improve training facilities. According to the force, these measures are intended to widen participation and improve medal chances at major competitions such as the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and World Police and Fire Games.
Infrastructure work under way
Sports facilities have already been developed at the National Industrial Security Academy (NISA) in Hyderabad and the Subsidiary Training Centre (SSG) in Greater Noida. Additional sports infrastructure is being built at the CISF Women Battalion in Nuh, Haryana.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) is also preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a Regional Sports Centre at the CISF’s Rajaditya Cholan Regional Training Centre (RCRTC) in Thakkolam. The proposed centre is expected to support training in badminton, tennis, fencing and cycling, among other disciplines.
Meeting with athletes
The announcements were made by CISF Director General Praveer Ranjan during a meeting with the force’s sportspersons who competed in national and international events this year. Five CISF athletes represented India at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan (2026). Head Constable Ritu won a gold medal as part of the Indian women’s kabaddi team.
CISF also reported stronger results at the All India Police Sports Clusters. Medals across the five clusters increased from 120 in 2025–26 (47 gold, 30 silver, 43 bronze) to 169 in 2026–27 (64 gold, 46 silver, 59 bronze). Team trophies rose from 10 to 20, including a shift from 6 men’s and 4 women’s trophies to 10 men’s and 10 women’s trophies.
Recognition and financial support
For 2025–26, the force distributed cash awards of approximately ₹97 lakh to medal-winning sportspersons and coaches. It also said 180 sportspersons and coaches will receive the Director General’s Disc, while 161 personnel will be given DG’s Commendation Certificates. Nine unit commanders will also be honoured for their contribution to sports.
Financial support measures include special increments granted to 18 sportspersons in 2026, including five for international-level achievements and 13 for national-level performances. Around ₹2 crore has been paid towards off-season special diet allowances for 2026–27, while about ₹4 crore for in-season diets is under process.
Common sports kits worth about ₹76 lakh have been provided to Central Sports Teams, and ₹71 lakh has been transferred directly to athletes for personal kits.
Officials said the combined steps of recruitment, infrastructure expansion, nutrition support, equipment assistance and recognition are aimed at improving training standards and creating more opportunities for CISF personnel to excel in competitive sports. The force said these efforts remain aligned with the national objective of improving India’s performance at major international sporting events.
