Guwahati marked the finish line for a 10-day Brahmaputra river mission as 100 Naval NCC cadets completed the Brahmaputra Sailing Expedition – MENU 2026 and were received at Pandu Port on November 6, 2026. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the flag-in ceremony, met the cadets and took part in the occasion after their 248-kilometre journey across the river.
Cadets Covered Six Districts On The Brahmaputra
The expedition was conducted under the aegis of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorate North Eastern Region (NER) and brought together cadets from the 48 and 49 Assam Naval Units. According to the report, the team travelled through six districts of Assam, with the voyage designed to test and strengthen endurance, teamwork, discipline and sailing skill.
The Brahmaputra route was also linked to Assam’s history and identity. The expedition paid tribute to Ahom General Bir Lachit Borphukan, whose leadership and military strategy were decisive in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671, when Ahom forces resisted the Mughal invasion.
Historical Tribute And Training Value
By moving along a river strongly associated with Assam’s past, the cadets’ journey was intended to connect them with themes of courage, patriotism, sacrifice and dedication to the nation. The source also notes that the Brahmaputra holds a significant place in the state’s military heritage and historical memory.
Apart from the historical aspect, the expedition offered practical training in seamanship, navigation, leadership and teamwork. The river conditions provided a setting in which cadets could build confidence, resilience and cooperation while operating under demanding circumstances.
Community Activities Along The Route
During the 10-day voyage, the cadets also took part in Swachhata Abhiyaan activities, anti-drug awareness campaigns and community outreach programmes. These activities added a civic element to the expedition and encouraged environmental responsibility and interaction with communities along the river route.

The successful completion of MENU 2026 reflects the NCC’s role in developing disciplined, responsible and confident young citizens through adventure training and service-oriented activity. The expedition combined physical endurance, maritime skills, historical awareness and social engagement in one programme.

At the flag-in ceremony, Himanta Biswa Sarma interacted with the cadets and boarded one of the boats, rowing alongside them before congratulating them on completing the expedition. The event concluded at Pandu Port after the cadets’ journey across the Brahmaputra.
