40. India-Nepal Joint Commission Meet: India and Nepal were on a constant border dispute last year regarding the Kalpani region. This year 6th India and Nepal commission met to discuss the dispute and bring out a possible solution.
41. India invited as a guest country to G7 summit: Recently UK invited India as a guest country along with Australia and South Korea to attend the G7 Summit which is to be held in June 2021.
42. 50 Years of India-Bangladesh Relations: This year we are celebrating the Swarnim Vijay varsh to mark our victory in the 1971 liberation war and also mark the 50 years of Indo-Bangladesh relations. Although there were protests in Bangladesh by few radical groups after the visit of the Indian PM.
43. Doppler Weather Radars: Recently two of the Indigenously built X-Band Doppler weather observation Radars were inducted by the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences to observe the weather change pattern in the Himalayas which can issue an early warning.

45. Bio-Medical Waste: The current pandemic has led to a surge in discarded biological wastes which includes biosamples, used test kits, injections and many such items. The regulatory authorities have pointed out maintaining a proper disposal mechanism for such harmful wastes.

The Inequality Virus Report of Oxfam International: The report pointed out issues of deepening inequalities between different sections of societies due to loss of jobs, lockdowns and other economical impacts. These gaps if not filled can have a serious impact on all the social thread of society.
47.Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP): Recently UK decided to join the CPTPP, a free trade block of Asia-Pacific countries. There is a total of 11 member countries excluding the UK, which include Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Brunei, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Peru, Chile and Mexico.
48. Uniform Civil Code: This term has been a lot in the news since the Citizenship Amendment Act came into the formulation. Recently Supreme court also sought an answer from the Central government in answer to PIL regarding the same. The UCC is mentioned in the Directive Principles of State policy.
49. Indus water treaty: The Indus Water Treaty was signed between India and Pakistan in the year 1960, regarding the distribution and use of water of the Indus river and the treaty was brokered by The World Bank. Recently, After a gap of more than two and half years Indian and Pakistani delegations began the 116th Meeting of the Permanent Indus Commission.
50. Suez Canal: One of the world’s largest container ships, named “Ever Given”, was wedged across the Suez Canal, blocking one of the busiest maritime trade corridors in the world. The blocked trade route and the subsequent economic loss highlighted the fragility of maritime trade routes and the need to rediscover new routes.

Digital currency: China has floated its own Central Bank-backed digital currency, namely eCNY in selected cities on a trial basis, which has brought attention to the evolving digital currencies both in the regulated and unregulated form. The year also saw a growing trade in cryptocurrencies. Reserve Bank of India has sought a ban on the use of cryptocurrencies in India and is also looking towards formulating India’s digital currency.

Critical infrastructure: The Ministry of Power claimed that there were constant attacks by China sponsored hackers on the major power centres of our country which highlights the need for a strong cyberinfrastructure and also attaching civilians to cyber defence and counter-attacks. National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC) warned about the threat from malware called Shadow Pad.
53. National river linking project (NRLP): The river linking project implies linking of rivers in the country to ensure sufficient water availability and also help in controlling the flood. Recently a linkup agreement has been signed between the Ministry of Jal Shakti and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh to initiate linking of Ken and Betwa rivers.

Intelligence Reforms: The intelligence structure of India is working well but needs reforms at the institutional level to ensure better data sharing and efficient man-management at the ground level. These demands were raised after the Ladakh standoff and also the recent Maoist attacks in Chattisgarh.
55. Bodo peace accord: This year was the first anniversary of the 3rd Bodo Peace accord signed between the government and the Bodo leaders. Bodo is one of the largest tribal group of Assam and comprises 5-6 per cent of the total population.
56. Draft national science technology and innovation policy: Recently the fifth draft National Science Technology and Innovation Policy was released to support research and innovation in the country and also support the missions of sustainable development.
57. Geopolitics of technology: Global transition to future technologies like Artificial Intelligence, 5G and Big Data. among others have started affecting the global geopolitics which can be seen in the global 5G adoption.
58. Indian Ocean Region (IOR): India’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) remarked “the world is witnessing a race for strategic bases in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and it is only going to gain momentum in the times to come”. This dialogue is enough to emphasise the importance of the region.
59. India China water relations: The construction of a run of river project by China in the river Brahmaputra has raised concerns for India, and the government is closely monitoring the activities.
60. National security directive on the telecom sector: Considering the need to ensure India’s national security, the Cabinet Committee on Security has accorded approval for the National Security Directive on the Telecom Sector. Indian directives for telecom security come amid global security concerns raised against Chinese equipment maker Huawei.
