53 Airports Are Included Under Krishi Udan Scheme

  • Krishi Udan Scheme was launched in August 2020 on international and national routes to assist farmers in transporting agricultural products so that it improves their value realization.
  • Krishi Udan 2.0 was announced in October 2021 enhancing the existing provisions, mainly focusing on transporting perishable food products from the hilly areas, North-Eastern States, and tribal areas. Primarily the scheme was focused on 25 airports in the North-Eastern Region, Hilly, and Tribal region
  • Krishi Udan is a convergence scheme where eight Ministries/Departments namely the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) would leverage their existing schemes to strengthen the logistics for transportation of Agri-produce. There is no budgetary allocation for the Scheme.
  • Under the Scheme, facilitating and incentivizing movement of Agri-produce by air transportation by full waiver of Landing, Parking, Terminal Navigational Landing Charges (TNLC), and Route Navigation Facility Charges (RNFC) for Indian freighters and Passenger to Cargo (P2C) at selected Airports of Airports Authority of India, primarily around 25 airports focusing on NER, Hilly, and Tribal region and 28 airports at other areas have been included.
  • 1,08,479 Metric Tons perishable cargo handled in FY 2021-22 (till 28 Feb. 2022)

Broadcast Seva Portal Launched

  • Information And Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur Launched The Broadcast Seva Portal In New Delhi. Keeping In View, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Initiative For Ease Of Doing Business, Digital India, And Make In India, The Broadcast Seva Portal Will Provide A Single Point Facility To The Stakeholders To Request Required Permission, Registrations, Licenses, Etc. Issued By The Ministry Of Information And Broadcasting.
  • This Portal Will Provide Easy Communication Between The Applicant And Different Stakeholders For Faster Processing Of Applications.
  • The Portal Is Likely To Help 900 Satellite TV Channels, 70 Teleport Operators, 1,700 Multi-Service Operators (MSOs), 350 Community Radio Stations (CRS), And 380 Private FM Channels, Among Others, The Ministry Informed.

  • The System For Pensions Administration- Raksha (SPARSH) Has Achieved A Major Milestone Of Successful Onboarding Nearly Five Lakh Defence Pensioners Onto The Platform.
  • Defence Ministry Has Implemented Sparsh For Pensioners Of The Indian Armed Forces As Well As Defence Civilians As An Integrated System For Automation Of Sanctions And Disbursement Of Defence Pensions.
  • The Ministry Said Sparsh Has Grown Exponentially Since Its Inception, With More Than 11,600 Crore Rupees Has Been Disbursed In The Last Financial Year.
  • SPARSH Is Designed Keeping Defence Pensioners At The Centre, Who Are Given A Completely Transparent View Of Their Pension Account Through An Online Portal.

1,213 Air Quality Instruments Operating Across India

  • MoEFCC Bhupender Yadav Told The Lok Sabha That There Were 1,213 Air Quality Instruments Operating In 465 Cities And 26 Rural Areas Across The Country.
  • They Were Installed After Considering The Air Quality.
  • Listing The Efforts Taken By The Government To Strengthen The Air Quality Monitoring System In The Country, The Minister Told The House That 17 Stations Have Been Sanctioned For Rural Areas In 2021-22 While The Air Quality Early Warning System For Delhi, Kanpur, And Lucknow Has Been Implemented.

‘Anytime-Anywhere Post Office Savings’ Service

  • Anytime-anywhere Post Office Savings Scheme, Will Allow Online Transfer Of Funds Between Postal And Bank Accounts.
  • Around 96 Percent Of Post Offices Across The Country Have Been Brought Under The Core Banking System (CBS), In Order To Implement The “anytime-anywhere Post Office Savings” Service.
  • There Are A Total Of 1,58,526 Post Offices In India, Out Of Which 1, 52,514 Post Offices, Or 96 Percent Of Them Have Already Been Brought Under CBS, Official Sources Informed.
  • This Will Not Only Help The Existing Post Office Savings Account Holders But Also Encourage New Individuals To Open A Savings Account With Ease, Sources Said.
  • The Government Is Also Working Towards Providing National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) And Real-time Gross Settlement (RTGS) Facilities For Online Transfer Of Funds From Post Office Accounts To Bank Accounts And Vice Versa.

Orleans Masters 2022 Badminton Tournament

  • In badminton, Indian shuttler Mithun Manjunath had to settle for a silver medal after losing to home favorite Toma Junior Popov in the men’s singles final of the Orleans Masters 2022 badminton tournament in Orleans, France.
  • Playing in his maiden BWF final, the 79th ranked Indian shuttler lost 11-21, 19-21 to world number 32 Frenchman at the Palais des Sports Arena. This was the first match between the two players.
  • Manjunath emerged as India’s best hope after the tournament’s top seed B Sai Praneeth was dismissed early in the pre-quarters. The women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam were the only other Indian players to make it to the semi-finals at the Orleans Masters 2022.

Australia Lifts ICC Women’s World Cup

  • Australia has lifted the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup defeating England in the final by 71 runs at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Chasing the target of 357, England Women were all out for 285 in 43.4 overs. Earlier, Put into bat first by England, Australia posted 356 for 5 in 50 overs.  This is the record for the seventh time Australia women have won the world cup.
  • For England, even an unbeaten 148 by Natalie Sciver could not save the defeat to Australia. Jess Jonassen and Alana King took three wickets each for Australia.
  • Alyssa Healy was declared Player of the Match and also the Player of the tournament.

Hungary PM Viktor Orban Wins 4th Term In Office

  • In Hungary, nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban scored a fourth consecutive win in the recent General election. Preliminary results showed Orban’s Fidesz party leading with 53.1% of votes versus 35% for Marki-Zay’s opposition alliance.
  • Fidesz was also winning 88 of 106 single-member constituencies. Based on preliminary results, the National Election Office said Fidesz would have 135 seats, a two-thirds majority, and the opposition alliance would have 56 seats.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on his victory in the Parliamentary elections. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, he is looking forward to continuing working with Mr. Orbán to further strengthen the close and friendly India-Hungary ties.
