Global AYUSH Investment And Innovation Summit

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi Said That ‘Heal In India’ Can Become A Big Brand Of This Decade And Wellness Centers Based On Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha Can Be Very Popular. Mr. Modi Also Announced To Create A New Category For Indian VISA- Ayush VISA, So That Foreigners Can Avail of The Benefit Of Indian Expertise In the Ayush Sector.
  • The Prime Minister Of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth And Director-general Of the World Health Organization Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus Were Also Present On This Occasion.

Adijati Maha Sammelan

  • Prime Minister Modi attend the Adijati Maha Sammelan in Dahod. He inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various development projects worth 22 thousand crore rupees. The Sammelan is expected to witness the participation of over 2 lakh people
  • The Prime Minister inaugurated projects worth over 1400 crore rupees in Dahod. He inaugurated Dahod District Southern Area Regional Water Supply Scheme on Narmada River Basin. The scheme was completed at 840 crore rupees. It will cater to the water supply needs of around 280 villages in Dahod District and Devgadh Baria city.

IMF Global Growth Outlook 2022

  • The International Monetary Fund(IMF), in its latest World Economic Outlook report released today, slashed its global growth outlook for calendar year 2022 to 3.6 per cent from 4.4 per cent saying that global economic prospects have worsened significantly due to commodity price volatility and disruption of supply chains caused by the war in Europe.
  • The war is expected to slow growth and further increase inflation, the IMF in its report, while warning that its forecast was marked by unusually high uncertainty. The report added that further sanctions on Russian energy and a widening of the war, a sharper-than-forecast deceleration in China and a renewed flare-up of the pandemic could further slow growth and boost inflation while rising prices could trigger social unrest.
  • IMF also slashed its forecast for India’s FY23 GDP growth to 8.2 per cent from earlier 9 per cent. The IMF cited the negative impact of higher oil prices led by the Ukraine-Russia conflict on domestic consumption and private investment. It recommended monetary tightening by central banks to keep inflationary expectations in check amid global supply side disruption.
  • Earlier, the World Bank has cut India’s GDP forecast for FY22-23 to 8 per cent. Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has also sharply cut India’s growth projection at 7.2 per cent for FY22-23, while the second advance estimate of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation had said that GDP growth would be 8.9 per cent.

National Metallurgist Award 2021

  • The Union Steel Ministry hosts National Metallurgist Award 2021 in New Delhi to recognize the outstanding contribution of metallurgists and engineers in the field of iron and steel. The program was chaired by the Steel Minister Ram Chandra Prasad Singh. The Steel Ministry has instituted the National Metallurgist Award after extensive deliberations with the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the rationalization of the awards in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 
  • The process of submissions of applications or nominations for the National Metallurgist Award 2021 was initiated from August to September last year. The awards will be given under categories like Lifetime Achievement, National Metallurgist, For Research and Development in the Iron and Steel Sector, and Young Metallurgist.

Sugar Export Jumps 65% In Last FY

  • India’s sugar export has witnessed an astounding growth of 291 per cent from one thousand 177 million US dollars in financial year 2013-14 to four thousand 600 million US dollars in the last financial year. It has exceeded 10 million tonnes for the first time. 
  • Ministry of Commerce and Industry said, sugar export jumped 65 percent in the last financial year corresponding to the previous year, despite logistical challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic. Highlighting this historic achievement in a tweet, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said, the government’s policies are helping farmers increase their income by tapping global markets.
  • The Ministry further said, country had exported sugar worth one thousand 965 million US dollars in 2019-20, which rose to two thousand 790 million US dollars in 2020-21 and four thousand 600 million US dollars in 2021-22.

Govt Extends PMGKP Insurance Scheme

  • The Union Government today extended the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP) Insurance Scheme for Health Care Workers Fighting COVID-19 for a further period of 180 days. The Health Ministry said, the decision has been taken to extend the policy so as to continue to provide the safety net to the dependents of health workers. A letter to this effect has been issued to all States and UTs for giving wide publicity among the health workers.
  • In March 2020, the PMGKP was launched to provide comprehensive personal accident cover of 50 lakh rupees to 22.12 lakh health care providers including community health workers and private health workers. The private hospital staff requisitioned by States and Central Hospitals specifically drafted for the care of COVID-19 patients are also covered under the scheme. So far, 1,905 claims of health workers who died while being deployed for COVID-related duties have been settled under the scheme.

National Apprenticeship Mela 2022

  • National Apprenticeship Mela 2022 will be organised across the country in more than over 700 locations on 21st of this month. Skill India, in association with the Directorate General of Training, is organising the day-long Apprenticeship Mela across the country. Under the initiative, the aim is to support hiring of more than one lakh apprentices and assist employers in tapping the right talent and develop it further with training and providing practical skillsets.
  • The event will witness participation from more than four thousand organisations across the country, operating in more than 30 sectors such as Power, Retail, Telecom, IT/ITeS, Electronics, Automotive. In addition, the aspiring youth will have the opportunity to engage and select from more than 500 trades including Welder, Electrician, Housekeeper, Beautician, and Mechanic. The National Policy of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015. It recognises apprenticeship as a means to provide gainful employment to skilled workforce with adequate compensation.
  • Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has also taken several efforts to increase the number of apprentices hired by enterprises in the country. The aim is to fill the gap in supply and demand for skilled workforce and meet the aspirations of the Indian youth through gaining on-the-job training and securing better opportunities for employment. Students who have cleared at least Class 5 to those who graduated Class 12, skill training certificate holders, ITI students, diploma holders and graduates are eligible to apply at the Apprenticeship Mela.

Mobile App For 2nd Khelo India University Games

  • The second edition of Khelo India University Games to be held in the tech capital of Bengaluru will have its own mobile app. This app launched yesterday is a single point reference for all the information on the University games to be inaugurated by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on 24th April.
  • The app will provide information on accommodation, food, transport service and timings, emergency contact numbers, maps to reach the stadiums among other things. It will also carry updates on event schedules, results and medal tally. The app can be downloaded from the play store for free. Post Covid third wave, this will be India’s first largest sporting event with participation of over 4500 sports persons from 189 Universities in 20 disciplines. The event will be held till May 3rd.
