Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a high-level meeting to take stock of the situation in the wake of the terror attack that left four Army jawans dead last week at Raj Bhawan in Jammu.
Defence Minister Chairs Security Review Meet In J&K
The meeting was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Army Chief, the Director General of J-K, senior officials of intelligence agencies and other concerned agencies.
In the meeting, Singh reviewed the ongoing anti-terror operations and the overall security situation. Earlier in the day, Singh reached Rajouri-Poonch, where local Army commanders briefed him on the current security scenario. He also interacted with Jawans. Singh also met the family members of three civilians who died allegedly due to custodial torture. He also met injured civilians at the government hospital in Rajouri.
2 Poonch Terror Attacks Share Many Similarities
Two militant attacks, eight months apart, on security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district share some striking similarities – from the choice of location to the ammunition used to the modus operandi of the attackers. In the attack on April 20, militants ambushed an Army truck, killing five soldiers near Bhatta Durian on the Bhimber Gali- Surankote road. The vehicle was carrying fruits and other items for an iftar gathering meant to be held for villagers in Sangiote village that evening.
On December 21, militants ambushed two Army vehicles near Topa Pir on the Dehra Ki Gali- Buffliaz Road, killing four soldiers and injuring three. The two locations are separated by roughly 30 km of dense forests, but if one has to travel by road, it will take 55 km via Surankote, and 80 km via the Rajouri-Thanamandi route. The People’s Anti-Fascist Front, a proxy front of Jaish-e-Mohammed terror outfit, has claimed responsibility for both the attacks. After the Bhatta Durian attack, it had released purported video footage, while after the recent attack, it released photographs.
Muslim League Jammu Kashmir (Masarat Alam) declared Unlawful Association
The Muslim League Jammu Kashmir (Masarat Alam faction) (MLJK-MA), which has been involved in anti-national and secessionist activities in Jammu and Kashmir and supporting terrorist activities, was on Wednesday declared a banned organisation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi government’s message is loud and clear that anyone acting against the unity, sovereignty, and integrity of the nation will not be spared and face the full wrath of the law.
