Official Update: Online registration for AFCAT 1 2023 starts on 1st December 2022. For the upcoming AFCAT 1 2023 Exam, the IAF is adding the Weapons Systems Branch for the first time. Flying, technical, weapon systems, administration, logistics, accounts, education, meteorology, and NCC Special Entry Flying (NCC Air Wing ‘C’ certificate is required) are the entry branches for AFCAT 1 2023. AFCAT 1 2023 Notification
- Indian citizens (men and women) are invited to join the Indian Air Force as Group A Gazetted Officers in the Flying and Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) branches. The AFCAT 1 2023 online test will take place in February of that year.
- The official notice of AFCAT 1 2023 will be released by the Indian Air Force on 1st December 2022. Registrations for the AFCAT 1 2023 will open on 1st December 2022.
- Exams for the online AFCAT 1 2023 would possibly be given in the second week of February 2022. The AFCAT 1 2023 notice and exam date were keenly awaited by numerous Indian Air Force and AFCAT hopefuls who are preparing for the AFCAT 1 2023 written exam and SSB interview. We are aware that the Indian Air Force announces the Air Force Common Admission Test announcement twice a year.

AFCAT 1 2023 Age Limits
(a) Flying Branch: 20 to 24 years as of 01 Jan 2024 i.e. born between 02 Jan 2000 to 01 Jan 2004 (both dates inclusive). Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable up to 26 years i.e. born between 02 Jan 1998 to 01 Jan 2004 (both dates inclusive).
(b) Ground Duty Technical Branch: 20 to 26 years as of 01 Jan 2024 i.e. born between 02 Jan 1998 to 02 Jan 2004 both dates Inclusive).
(c) Ground Duty Non-Technical Branch: 20 to 26 years as of 01 Jan 2024 i.e. born between 02 Jan 1998 to 02 Jan 2004 both dates Inclusive).

AFCAT 1 2023 Education Qualification
Flying Educational Qualification:
- Candidates should have mandatorily passed with a minimum of 50% marks each in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level and (aa) Graduation with minimum three years degree course in any discipline from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent. OR
- (ab) BE/B Tech degree (Four years course) from a recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent. OR
- (ac) Candidates who have cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Ground Duty Technical Educational Qualification:
- (aa) Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) {AE (L)}. Candidates with a minimum of 50% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four years degree graduation/integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/ Technology from recognized University OR cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the following disciplines
- (ab) Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) {AE (M)}. Candidates with a minimum of 50% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four years degree graduation/integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/Technology from recognized University OR cleared Sections A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the following disciplines:-
Ground Duty Non-Technical Educational Qualification:
- (aa) Weapon Systems (WS) Branch. Candidates should have mandatorily passed with a minimum of 50% marks each in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level and (aaa) Graduation with minimum three years degree course in any discipline from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent. OR (aab) BE/B Tech degree (Four years course) from a recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
- (ab) Administration & Logistics. Passed 10+2 and Graduate Degree (Minimum three years degree course) in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
- (ac) Accounts Branch. Passed 10+2 and done graduation in any of the following streams with 60 % marks or equivalent from a recognized university:- (aaa) B. Com Degree (Min three years course). (aab) Bachelor of Business Administration (with specialization in Finance)/ Bachelor of Management Studies (with specialization in Finance)/ Bachelor of Business Studies (with specialization in Finance) (aac) Qualified CA/ CMA/ CS/ CFA. (aad) B.Sc. with specialization in Finance.
- (ad) Education. Passed 10+2 and Post-Graduation with 50% marks in any discipline including integrated courses offering PG (Single degree without permission to exit and lateral entry) and with 60% marks in Graduation in any discipline.
- (ae) Meteorology. Passed 10+2 and B Sc with Physics and Mathematics with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent or four year Graduation in Engineering/Technology discipline
NOTE:
- Only those candidates who have given 12th standard in 10+2 pattern of examination are eligible to apply for these courses.
- One seat is reserved for Law qualified candidates in Ground duty (Non-Tech) branches and these candidates may get employed on legal duties of the IAF (after commissioning).

Education – Post graduate degree (MBA / MCA or MA / M Sc degree in English / Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Statistics / International relations / International Studies / Defence Studies / Psychology / Computer Science / IT /Management / Mass Communication / Journalism / Public Relation) with minimum 50% marks, along with minimum 60% marks in graduation. 4. Meteorology – B Sc with Physics and Mathematics with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent or four year Graduation in Engineering/Technology discipline |
AFCAT 1 2023 Exam Syllabus
(a) English. Comprehension, Detect Error in Sentence, Sentence Completion/ Filling in of correct word, Synonym/ Antonym, Cloze Test or Fill in the Gaps in a paragraph, Idioms and Phrases, Analogy, Sentence Rearranging, Substitution in a Sentence/ One Word Substitution.
(b) General Awareness. History, Geography, Sports, National & International Organisations, Art & Culture, Personalities, Environment & Ecology, Indian Polity, Economy, Basic Science Based Knowledge, Science & Technology, Current Affairs (National & International), Defence.
(c) Numerical Ability. Decimal Fraction, Time and Work, Average/ Percentage, Profit & Loss, Ratio & Proportion, Simple and Compound Interest, Time & Distance and Races (Trains/ Boats & Streams), Area and Perimeter, Probability, Number System & Number Series, Mixture & Allegation Rules, Clocks.
(d) Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test. Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning
Standard Of Questions. The standard of Numerical Ability Questions will be of Matriculation level. The standard of questions in other subjects will be of graduation level (Indian University).
