Anduril UK Teams Up with GKN Aerospace for British Army’s Project NYX

Anduril UK has forged a strategic partnership with GKN Aerospace to bolster the British Army’s Project NYX, a significant initiative aimed at advancing autonomous land systems. This collaboration appoints GKN Aerospace as Anduril’s airframe manufacturing and electrical integration partner, encompassing operations at the Isle of Wight airframe production facility.

This partnership is a part of a larger network comprising over 100 suppliers, collectively providing support to Project NYX. This initiative is projected to bolster approximately 50,000 jobs within the UK’s industrial landscape.

In the scope of this collaboration, GKN Aerospace will be responsible for supplying airframe components and integrating electrical systems for the autonomous platforms developed under Project NYX. Meanwhile, Anduril will oversee the overall system integration, ensuring all components work seamlessly together.

Archer Aviation has also joined this collaborative effort, contributing its expertise in electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) technology and hybrid propulsion systems, which will enhance the capabilities of Project NYX.

Rich Drake, the Managing Director of Anduril UK, noted that this partnership underscores a commitment to delivering “sovereign solutions” to the Ministry of Defence, while tapping into the extensive engineering talent available across the UK.

The industrial ecosystem surrounding Project NYX is expansive. Various companies beyond Anduril and GKN Aerospace are playing critical roles in the development of autonomous systems, painting a comprehensive picture of the program’s industrial backbone.

Archer Aviation’s involvement focuses on hybrid propulsion and sophisticated rotorcraft designs, which align with the British Army’s future Autonomous Collaborative Platform needs.

Additionally, organizations such as Atom Performance Technologies, Flarebright, Olsen Actuators, and Isembard are contributing to Project NYX. Their diverse range of activities includes the manufacture of propulsion components, development of micro-unmanned aerial vehicles, and provision of actuators and embedded systems, as well as support for advanced manufacturing processes.

This expansive collaboration signifies a robust future for the British Army’s technological landscape, with Project NYX paving the way for a new generation of autonomous systems.
