Army chief witnesses Exercise Parvat Prahar in eastern Ladakh Amid disengagement with China

On the first day of his two-day trip to the area, Army chief Gen. Manoj Pande saw wargames in eastern Ladakh. This was while China was pulling back from the Gogra Heights-Hot Springs area on the LAC.

The Army chief’s trip to the Ladakh sector is happening on the third day of the disengagement process between India and China at the Gogra Heights-Hot Springs area, which was the last place where tensions were still unresolved after the Chinese troops attacked in May 2020.

The Indian Army said that during the visit, Gen. Pande saw the war games called Exercise Parvat Prahar and talked to commanders on the ground about how ready they were for operations.

During the visit, he talked to the troops and praised them for staying strong and doing their jobs well, officials said.

India and China have agreed to take down and check the temporary structures and other infrastructure built in the Gogra-Hot Springs (PP-15) area of the LAC in eastern Ladakh. This is a step toward solving the problems on the LAC after May 2020, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.

The sixteenth round of talks between the Corps Commanders of India and China took place at Chushul Moldo Meeting Point on July 17, 2022. This disengagement process is the result of those talks.

Since then, the two sides have been in regular contact to build on the progress made during the talks and solve the problems along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Western Sector of the border areas between India and China.

“So, both sides have agreed to stop fighting in the Gogra-Hot Springs area (PP-15). According to the agreement, the process of pulling out of this area began on September 8 at 8:30 a.m. and will end on September 12, 2022 “MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had said.
