The Aviation Combat Tactics Course (ACTC) has successfully concluded at Nagtalao, training ten combat aviators from the Indian Army’s Attack Helicopter platforms. The course, organized by the Thar Raptors Brigade, was instrumental in honing essential skills such as mission planning, operational excellence, target engagement, and evasive maneuvers, all conducted under near-real combat conditions. This rigorous training was designed to prepare the aviators for the complexities and demands of modern warfare.
The program, which is overseen by the Combat Army Aviation Training School (CATS) located in Nashik, reflects the institution’s commitment to maintaining high standards of military training under the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) based in Shimla. CATS is renowned for its comprehensive training modules that equip army personnel with the necessary skills to excel in their roles. During the closing ceremony, Major General Abhinaya Rai, the Commandant of CATS, acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the student officers and commended the Thar Raptors Brigade for their outstanding efforts in executing the course. Major General Rai, who took charge of CATS in December 2024, has been pivotal in refining training methodologies to address the evolving landscape of operational requirements.
The Indian Army Aviation Corps, which was established in 1986, plays a vital role in various military operations including combat search and rescue, logistics support, medical evacuation, and tactical missions. The corps currently operates several helicopter models, including the HAL Chetak, Cheetah, and Dhruv. However, a significant number of these aircraft are now aging and require replacement with more modern platforms to enhance both tactical lift and combat capabilities. The ACTC represents a part of ongoing initiatives to ensure that aviators are fully prepared to engage in a wide range of operations, such as reconnaissance, observation, and special forces missions, especially in challenging terrains.
The ceremony also underscored the Army Aviation Corps’ unwavering commitment to maintaining high operational standards. The professionalism demonstrated by the Thar Raptors Brigade received special recognition, highlighting the Indian Army’s focus on strengthening its aviation capabilities. As the demands of modern warfare continue to evolve, this training initiative is a testament to the Army’s dedication to ensuring that its personnel are equipped with the skills needed to navigate the complexities of contemporary combat environments.
