Bratislava has officially entered into a framework agreement to supply Azerbaijan with its domestically developed SAM-120 self-propelled mortars. This significant deal was finalized during the World Defense Show held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, involving Slovakiaโs state-owned ZลคS ล peciรกl and Azerbaijanโs defense contractor, Iglin Scientific Production Enterprise.
The initial agreement entails the delivery of 96 units, with the possibility of expanding the order to as many as 300 systems based on Azerbaijan’s military needs. The value of the primary contract is estimated at 210 million euros, equivalent to approximately $249 million, and production is set to commence immediately.
Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliลรกk emphasized the importance of this deal, stating it represents one of the largest transactions in recent history for ZลคS ล peciรกl. โWe believe that this is the beginning of a new increase in the self-confidence of the Slovak defense industry,โ Kaliลรกk remarked. He indicated that plans are in place to showcase the SAM-120 system to Azerbaijanโs armed forces and relevant stakeholders during a defense exhibition scheduled for the autumn of 2026.
Further discussions between Slovakia and Azerbaijan are anticipated, focusing on the potential for a licensing agreement that would allow for the partial or complete production of the SAM-120 within Azerbaijan itself.
