UPSC conducted CDS 1 2021 Exams on 7th February 2021, Sunday. The questions which came from the English Paper of CDS 1 2021 exam were comparatively of easier level this year. The table for the topic wise question distribution has been given below.

The CDS 1 2021 English Paper consisted of the total 100 marks with 10 questions from each of the 12 topics, namely, Spotting Errors, Antonyms, Synonyms, Idioms & Phrases, Fill in the Blanks, Ordering of Words in a Sentence, Ordering of Sentences in a Paragraph, Comprehension, Parts of Speech, Cloze Test or Cloze Composition, Preposition & Determiners and Completion Of Sentence amounting to a total of 120 questions. In CDS 1 2021 English Paper, no questions came from the topics like Sentence Improvement, Active Passive Voice, Reported Speech, Spelling, One Word Substitution and Transformation of Sentences.

As per the difficulty level, the question paper for the English paper of CDS 1 2021 Exam, was very easy to attempt. For a candidate with a good and strong knowledge of grammar and clear grammatical concepts, the questions, especially from the ‘Spotting Errors’ topic, were a cakewalk. A very basic to medium level of knowledge for Vocabulary is needed for a candidate to solve questions from ‘Antonyms’, ‘Synonyms’ and ‘Idioms & Phrases’. Candidates who applied basic and tricky shortcuts for ‘Ordering of Words’ & ‘Ordering of Sentences’ cracked the questions very easily. Two new sections namely ‘Preposition and Determiners’ and ‘Completion of Sentence’ came in the CDS 1 2021 English paper which may to some extent appear a bit confusing for the candidates. But with basic grammatical knowledge and conceptual clarity these sections would have been easy to solve.

The English paper of CDS 1 2021 Exam was overall easy for those who studied the English curriculum thoroughly and acquired strong knowledge of both English grammar and vocabulary. But students who skipped either of the vocabulary or the grammar part of the CDS English syllabus and concentrated mainly on the rest of the topics faced a major difficulty in solving the CDS 1 2021 English paper.
