Chinese researchers are reportedly developing a strategy to disrupt the Starlink satellite constellation, operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, by deploying a coordinated fleet of signal-jamming drones. This initiative, modeled by experts from Zhejiang University and the Beijing Institute of Technology, focuses on utilizing a swarm of approximately 1,000 to 2,000 drones to effectively saturate and overwhelm the satellite communication network.
The concept entails each drone emitting noise signals at varying power levels, which could potentially drown out the communications from Starlink satellites to ground terminals. By flooding the frequency bands used by Starlink, these drones are designed to create a barrier that prevents users from maintaining stable connectivity.
This innovative approach to signal jamming could have significant implications for satellite communications, particularly in regions where Starlink provides critical internet access. The development highlights an ongoing trend of nations exploring and advancing electronic warfare capabilities, as the reliance on satellite technology continues to grow.
