76th Session Of WHO Regional Committee

  • Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has said that government is expanding health infrastructure, promoting traditional systems of medicine, and providing affordable healthcare to all.
  • Dr Mandaviya said this while addressing the 76th session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia Regional Office in New Delhi .
  • He highlighted  India’s efforts towards achieving the goal of Universal Health Care  following a holistic and  inclusive approach.
  • He added that India is reaching the last mile with the help of Ayushman Bharat- Health and Wellness Centres.
  • The Minister metioned that so far Ayushman Bharat- Health and Wellness Centres have recorded over two thousand one hundred and ten million footfalls.

Special Operation Medal

  • The “Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal” for this year has been awarded for four Special Operations.
  • Several officers and personnel from CRPF, NIA, NCB and different States, and organizations have been selected for the award.

  • According to the Home Ministry, the award will be conferred for Special Operation in the areas such as counter-terrorism, border action, arms control, prevention of narcotics smuggling and rescue operations.
  • The medal was constituted in 2018 with the objective to recognize those operations, which have high degree of planning, high significance for the security of the country, State or Union Territory and have significant impact on the security of larger sections of the society.

AI Safety Summit’ 2023 In UK

  • Electronics and IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar will participate in the two-day ‘AI Safety Summit’ 2023 in the United Kingdom from Wednesday.
  • The summit, organized by the UK Government, will bring together Ministers and representatives from various countries, including the UK, US, France, Indonesia, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, among others.
  • The Electronics and IT Ministry said the summit will see the participation of leading global think tanks, renowned academic institutions specializing in Artificial Intelligence, and government representatives from like-minded nations.
  • The Ministry added that the Minister will engage in meaningful dialogues with his counterparts from around the world, centered on the theme of “AI for Good.”

New Mushroom Species Discovered In Western Ghats

  • A recent finding from the Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanic Garden and Research Institute (JNTBGRI) in Kerala, India, has unveiled a previously unknown mushroom species.
  • This newly identified mushroom, named Candolleomyces albosquamosus, was spotted within the confines of the JNTBGRI campus situated in the Western Ghats.
  • This significant revelation not only highlights the rich biodiversity of the area but also serves as an impetus for further exploration into the fungal diversity of this region.
  • Notably, the newly discovered species falls within the Candolleomyces genus, a small group comprising only 35 known species worldwide.
  • The findings of this discovery were formally documented in the scientific journal Phytotaxa, courtesy of the diligent efforts of researchers C. K. Pradeep and P. K. Nayana from the Microbiology Division of JNTBGRI.

Kerala 1st State – Hallmarking Centers In Every District

  • Kerala, the southern Indian state, has accomplished a notable feat with the opening of a hallmarking center in Idukki.
  • This milestone has firmly established Kerala as the first state in India to set up hallmarking centers in all of its 14 districts.
  • The inauguration of these hallmarking centers marks a significant stride in ensuring the quality and trustworthiness of gold jewelry for customers.
  • As of 2022, Kerala’s gold industry is valued at over ₹1 lakh crore, with yearly sales totaling around 250 tonnes.
  • The state houses roughly 12,000 gold traders, a majority of whom are enlisted with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

FATF Removes Cayman Islands From Its ‘Grey List’

  • The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an inter-governmental body responsible for setting international standards to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing, has recently made headlines by removing several countries from its ‘grey list’ while adding another.
  • Removed Cayman Island From The List.
  • The FATF maintains a ‘grey list,’ which consists of jurisdictions that do not meet the organization’s anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorism financing (CFT), and proliferation financing standards.
  • Countries placed on this list are subject to increased monitoring until identified deficiencies in their regulatory frameworks are resolved.
  • FATF added Bulgaria to the list. This decision reflects the need for Bulgaria to strengthen its AML, CFT, and proliferation financing systems, aligning them with international standards.

Aligarh Muslim University To Launch Its Own Satellite

  • Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has initiated a pioneering space endeavor called the ‘SS AMU SAT’ project, sanctioned by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe).
