UNICEF India’s National Ambassador

  • Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan has been appointed as the National Ambassador for UNICEF India. This prestigious role comes as a recognition of her long-standing association with the organization since 2014, where she has served as a Celebrity Advocate.
  • Alongside Kareena’s appointment, UNICEF India also introduced its first-ever Youth Advocates, a group of four remarkable individuals who will serve as peer leaders and champions for crucial issues affecting children and young people.

Sunita Williams

  • Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams will fly to space again tomorrow on first crewed mission of Boeing’s Starliner.
  • She will make her long-awaited return to space aboard Starliner, as Boeing conducts the spacecraft’s maiden human spaceflight.

  • Williams, will join fellow NASA astronaut Barry Butch Wilmore, on the Crew Flight Test (CFT) mission, the first crewed flight of the Starliner to the International Space Station (ISS).
  • Astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry Willmore will launch on early hours tomorrow, Indian time. The duo will launch atop a United Launch Alliance, Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. This mission is a crucial step in certifying the Starliner system for regular crew rotations to the orbiting laboratory.
  • It will provide Nasa with a second option for transporting astronauts to the ISS alongside SpaceX’s Crew Dragon.

Food Safety And Standards Authority Of India

  • India has asserted that it has one of the most stringent norms for pesticide residues in food items and dismissed the reports that the country’s food regulator permits higher pesticide residues limits in herbs and spices.
  • The Union Health Ministry has clarified that maximum residue limits are different for various food products based on risk assessment.

  • It added that media reports claiming that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India allows ten times more pesticide residue in herbs and spices are false and malicious.
  • The Ministry’s comments came amid reported action by the Hong Kong food regulator and Singapore food regulator on some products of two leading Indian brands over alleged presence of pesticide Ethylene Oxide in their samples.

  • The People’s Republic of China has reclaimed its throne as the top badminton nation, clinching both the men’s and women’s titles at the prestigious 2024 BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals in Chengdu.

  • This remarkable feat marks the first time since 2012 that China has conquered both the men’s and women’s world team championships.
  • In the highly anticipated Thomas Cup final, China denied Indonesia – the most successful nation in the tournament’s history – their 15th title, securing their 11th championship in the process.Mirroring their male counterparts’ success, the Chinese women’s team also emerged victorious, capturing the Uber Cup title in a commanding performance.

  • India is putting the spotlight on its lesser-known summer getaways at the Arabian Travel Market 2024, launching the ‘Cool Summers of India’ campaign to challenge perceptions and promote the country as an attractive 365-day destination.

  • This digital campaign, aptly named ‘’Coolcations,” challenges the notion of India being too hot for summer travel, emphasizing its offerings in hill resorts, including the Himalayas. The campaign seeks to promote India as a holistic destination throughout the year.
  • As one of the largest exhibitors at the 31st edition of the region’s premier travel trade show, the Indian contingent is leveraging ATM’s global platform to showcase not just iconic landmarks but refreshing hill stations, mountain retreats, and other summer escapes.

  • The Incredible India Pavilion has drawn strong visitor interest, with over 100 participants including state tourism boards from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, as well as luxury hotels and wellness resorts. India’s diverse cultural attractions and tourism offerings are being highlighted through the sizable pavilion, one of the largest at the event.
  • The country’s participation comes as its inbound tourism sector experiences a remarkable revival, with foreign tourist arrivals in 2023 surging 64% compared to 2022 as pandemic impacts waned.   • The 31st edition has drawn over 2,300 exhibitors from 165 countries, with 41,000 attendees expected .The Arabian Travel Market, also known as ATM, is a leading global event for travel and tourism professionals in the Middle East. Held annually in Dubai, it serves as a platform for businesses in the inbound and outbound tourism sectors.

4×400 Metre Relay Teams

  • Indian men’s and women’s 4×400 metre relay teams have qualified for Paris Olympics after finishing second in their respective second-round heats at the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas.

  • In the women’s competition, the quartet of Rupal Chaudhary, M R Poovamma, Jyothika Sri Dandi and Subha Venkatesan clocked 3 minutes and 29.35 seconds to finish second behind Jamaica in heat number one to book a Paris Games ticket.
  • Later, the men’s squad of Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Muhammed Ajmal, Arokia Rajiv and Amoj Jacob finished with a collective timing of 3 minutes and 3.23 seconds to also finish second in their heat, behind USA.
  • The top two teams in each of the three heats in the second round were to qualify for the Olympics to be held from the 26th of July to the 11th of August.
